It was the Summer issue cover that caught my eye and made me want to find out more about this magazine with the very appropriate title. Escapades is a new Middle Eastern travel publication circulating throughout the Persian Gulf. Skewing toward the comfortably affluent and well-heeled reader, the magazine embodies a spirit rooted in the uncharted adventures that lie ambitiously in wait.
Besides the interesting and rather unusual stories for a travel magazine, Escapades also features a visual language that is different from the majority of similar titles out there. I can only assume it was somehow inspired by those "uncharted adventures", because its design is daring, imaginative and exciting. The Wanderer's path is a perfect example; it's the kind of design you'd expect to see in a news magazine like The New York Times. The rest of the magazine is a successful blend of illustrations, travel photography and bold and playful typography.
Washington-based designer and illustrator Matt Chase was in charge of the design amongst many, many other things! There is an elaborate presentation and explanation of the design process as well as more illustration and design work to keep you happy, so make sure you have at look at his website.
