I often come across projects from designers in Greece, that I believe are worthy of the online attention and mention of work I usually find on design websites and blogs. This one is called Athens Special le tour and it features the best places to eat in Athens, according to greek chef Vasilis Kallidis. It's like an urban guide for food, that pays a tribute to a city-definition of urban life. A city that might be as misunderstood and 'concrete' as it's beautiful and attractive, but its people definitely know how and where to eat good.
It has a distinct and unusual visual language that combines street photography and index-like typography, in an attempt to capture the nostalgic, slightly kitsch and decadent feeling of the city. The recipe section is designed with the same mentality but, as if it was created separately with its own cover, rules, grids, even page numbering. The visuals in both parts convey everyday Athenian cliches blended with a pinch of tradition and a twisted surreal feel, with great reference to the hand drawn signage.
