What triggers an emotional reaction, a lived experience (memory) or a visual stimulation that might not even be yours? I have never been to the U.S. but for some reason this photograph reminds me of 1970’s american highways: the color palette, the road sing, the burning sun. I can see the cars passing by, as I’ve seen them so many times before in movies and images on the internet, that it feels familiar.
It’s what I’ve been trying to explain when I was working on a project about the romanticized skylines and the difference between what you see and what it is. Between the visuals of a place you’ve seen so many times before in movies and images and the experience of actually living in that place, which most of the times can be completely and utterly different.
